Born in the Palace of Versailles in 1764, Elisabeth of France, known as Madame Elisabeth, was the youngest of Louis XVI’s sisters. In 1783, when Madame Elisabeth was nineteen years old, Louis XVI bestowed upon her a piece of land and a house in the village of Montreuil. Today, this area is known as the “Estate of Madame Elisabeth” and remains an iconic part of the Montreuil district in Versailles.
