A place steeped in History

The Pavillon de La Muette is rooted in a rich historical heritage dating back to the Renaissance. Originally, a hunting lodge was established under François I near the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, a major center of royal life before the rise of Versailles.

In the 18th century, Louis XV commissioned a new pavilion designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, a leading figure of French classical architecture. The site became a privileged setting dedicated to royal hunts, symbolizing power and prestige during the Ancien Régime.

Louis XVI continued this tradition, regularly visiting the estate. The Pavilion also became a source of inspiration for many artists and writers of the time.

After the French Revolution, the site endured through the centuries while preserving its exceptional character. Napoleon I notably used it for diplomatic hunting events, reinforcing its strategic and prestigious role.

Today, the Pavillon de La Muette carries forward this unique legacy, offering a setting where history, elegance, and the French art of living come together.
